The company evaluated multiple sites as a possible home
for the plant, according to Kurt
Schmidt, Blue Buffalo’s CEO.
“The location of Richmond is
ideal for Blue Buffalo and this,
coupled with the strong work
ethic embedded here in Richmond, made this the perfect
choice for us,” Schmidt said.

OLD MOTHER HUBBARD
CELEBRATES 90TH ANNIVERSARY
WellPet LLC’s Old Mother Hubbard brand, maker of home-style
baked dog treats in Gloucester,
Mass., celebrates 90 years of baking this year.
To commemorate the milestone, the brand gathered at
Gloucester Dog Park, Stage Fort
Park in June with several local organizations, from the Cape Ann
animal shelter to the Gloucester
Maritime Museum, for a day of
pet-friendly festivities, including
a Boston-themed dog costume
contest, dog ice cream trucks and
biscuit bars, raffles to win a year’s
supply of Old Mother Hubbard
dog treats and more.
According to the company,
Old Mother Hubbard Baking
Co. began with a classic recipe originally developed as a
wholesome snack for fisherman
while out at sea. The dog treats
came about after a sailor threw
a biscuit to his dog that happily
gobbled it up.
