400 PETS TO NEW HOMES
Wings of Rescue, a 501(c)( 3) organization of volunteer pilots
committed to saving at-risk shelter dogs and cats, airlifted about
400 pets from Southern California animal shelters to shelters and rescues in New Jersey,
Massachusetts and Washington.
More than 200 of those dogs and
cats were sponsored by Kriser’s
Natural Pet, which partnered
with its employees and customers to raise more than $20,000 for

Every purchase of the new
treats supports and brings aware-
ness to Big Cat Rescue, an accred-
ited sanctuary for exotic cats in
Tampa, Fla., that houses more
than 80 lions, tigers, bobcats, cou-
gars and other abandoned, ne-
glected or abused cats.
The all-natural, grain-free and
gluten-free treats come in rabbit,
minnows, ahi tuna and chicken
varieties, benefit feline oral care
and are 100 percent made in the
USA, the manufacturer stated.
Watters used his industry resources and network to create the
new cat treat line.
FOUND ANIMALS FOUNDATION’S
ANNUAL SAVING PETS
The Michelson Found Animals
Foundation Inc., a Los Ange-les-based nonprofit that supports
pet owners and animal welfare
organizations, launched its third
annual Saving Pets Challenge.
The 31-day competition—which
began July 5 and ended Aug.
4—was hosted through the fundraising platform CrowdRise and
has animal welfare organizations
across the U.S. competing to raise
money for their efforts while
working together to save pets.
Nearly 600 organizations
participated this year, more
than twice as many as in 2015.

MORE THAN $30M IN FY16
The Petco Foundation announced
that grant investments in FY16
totaled $30 million in funding
for animal welfare initiatives
and marked the highest annual
funding total in the foundation’s
17-year history. Combined with
in-kind product donations of $2
million, the collective footprint
of the foundation’s support efforts reached 2,770 organizations
across the country from May 2015
through April 2016.
Last year’s investments featured a heavy emphasis on organizations that inspired and
transformed their communities
to actively reduce euthanasia and
implement lifesaving programs.
One initiative of note included
the foundation’s annual Helping
Heroes campaign, which supported organizations providing
service and therapy assistance
animals, including support dogs,
to our nation’s veterans with
physical and emotional disabili-ties, as well as pet cancer grants,
which supported research and
treatment initiatives to offset the
burden of veterinary care and
provide broader context for the
way we approach cancer treatments in human patients.

CRANE GROUP PURCHASES
IN PET PARADISE
Crane Group, a family-owned
holding and management company in Columbus, Ohio, has
purchased a majority interest
in Pet Paradise, an upscale pet
boarding, day camp and grooming company in Jacksonville, Fla.
The purchase is Crane Group’s
first investment in the pet indus-

across seven states. Last year,
the company served more than
55,000 pet guests, whose own-
ers booked more than 600,000
nights in the company’s state-
of-the-art resorts. Pet Paradise
resorts are distinguished by their
climate-controlled suites, pools,
public web cameras and spacious
artificial turf play areas.
Pet Paradise’s executive and
key management team will stay
in place, and all resort personnel will remain the same. Pet
Paradise’s current CEO, Fred
Goldsmith, will transition to a
founder role, while Fernando
Acosta-Rua, current COO and
executive vice president of finance, will assume the role of
CEO at Pet Paradise.
METRO PET SPA AND
K9 FIT CLUB GRAND
K9 Fit Club has opened its first
and only location in Los Angeles
County. Metro Pet Spa and K9 Fit
Club partnered up and hosted
a grand opening celebration in
July in Montebello, Calif. Fitness
demonstrations and prize giveaways were a few of the many
activities that took place.

with their canine companions,
which makes this two-day celebration truly unique and special,”
said Tricia Montgomery, founder
of K9 Fit Club.
