and will promote the services of retailers partners such
as pet grooming, training and dog day care.
RETIRED VETERAN LAUNCHES DOG TOY,
SEEKS DISTRIBUTION PARTNERS
Barrett Ball, based in Penn Yan, N. Y., has launched the
Barrett Ball into the pet trade.
The product is the brainchild of James Hayes, a
disabled veteran. Hayes served his country honorably with three tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan.
He suffers from both post-traumatic stress disorder
(PTSD) and a traumatic brain injury (TBI). After a long
wait, he was assigned a service dog named Barrett.
Hayes developed the new toy for Barrett—a German
shepherd that helps Hayes cope with his injuries but
whom he found destroys every dog toy on the market.
Hayes set out to invent a dog ball that couldn’t be destroyed and could be enjoyed by heavy chewers like
Barrett—and the Barrett Ball was born.
The patent-pending Barrett Ball is made of solid
natural rubber. The toy is one complete unit without
a seam, making it virtually indestructible, according
to company officials. The ball is great for chewing,
training and playing fetch. It comes in two sizes: large,
which has a 5-inch diameter, weighs 2 pounds and
comes in neon green, and medium, with a 2.5-inch
diameter, 0.8-ounce weight and royal blue color. The
suggested retail price for the large is $19.99, and the
suggested retail price for the medium is $14.99.
Hayes is actively seeking business and distribution
partners to help bring the Barrett Ball to market. To
learn more about the Barrett Ball or to request a sample, contact James Hayes at 315-694-8440 or by email
PET CHARITY NEWS
Bentley’s Pet Stuff
Pet specialty retailer Bentley’s Pet Stuff has debuted three programs to boost its charitable giving efforts.
Encouraging its employees to give time to organizations near
and dear to them, Bentley’s will grant every one of its more than
340 full-time employees 16 paid volunteer hours per year and
will grant eight hours to its 71 part-time employees. Staff members may choose to donate this paid volunteer time to any nonprofit organization they wish. The company will track to which
organization the most hours are volunteered for larger storewide
donation efforts. In addition, for the 10-year anniversary, signature bunnies are being sold at all locations, and each one sold
gives Feed My Starving Children $5, with a goal to sell out, which
would give Feed My Starving Children $10,000—enough to feed
an entire village.
Moving forward, all Bentley’s stores will feature a special retail section where customers can purchase products to be donated to a rotating roster of local animal shelters.
