The American Kennel Club (AKC)
presented the 2018
AKC Legislator of
the Year Award to
Rogers of Alabama
on Aug. 28 at the AKC U.S. Dog Detection Conference in Durham,
“Congressman Rogers is a leading voice in Congress on the
Committee on Homeland Security and consistently addresses the
need for more domestically bred service dogs,” said Sheila Goffe,
vice president of government relations for AKC. “An example of
this leadership is his diligence in bringing together the knowledge
and resources of top dog breeders, trainers, researchers and han-
dlers to establish working dog standards for excellence to help en-
sure a future source of high-quality explosives detection dogs that
can protect our national and public security. We greatly appreciate
the work he is doing on this issue.”
In addition, Rogers placed language in the 2017 Defense Au-
thorization Act (HR 2810) to require reports on detection dog pur-
chases and to increase accountability and transparency regarding
the purchase of foreign-bred dogs by the U.S. government for de-
tection dog programs.
Last December, Rogers introduced HB 4577, the Domestic Explosives Detection Canine Capacity Building Act. The bill calls for
the development of a working group to develop a decentralized
domestic canine breeding network to produce high-quality explosives detection canines and modernize canine training standards. It
has passed the House and is now in the Senate.
ONLY AN OCEAN PARTNERS
WITH GERMAN CO.
Only An Ocean has confirmed an exclusive partnership with German dog and
cat brand Max & Molly. While details of
the partnership are confidential, Only An
Ocean will be leading sales and marketing efforts into the U.S. and Canada.
Prior to forming Only An Ocean,
co-founder Cheryl Pedersen was able
to lightly introduce Max & Molly to the
marketplace through her brand Poochie-Pets, based in Simsbury, Conn. Seeing its
quick success was a driver behind the formation of Only An Ocean.
“The U.S. was always the target mar-
ket for Max & Molly, but we quickly
learned the American market is completely different than the European market,” said Michael Reiser,
founder of Max & Molly. “With Only an Ocean, we finally found a professional, passionate partner
who helped us expand into America.”
Only An Ocean is in the process of building an industry panel to help the organization evaluate
the many product submissions it has been receiving as well as to help guide the companies to suc-
cess once they are selected. While the panel will remain anonymous, the goal is for it to consist of
diverse personalities and positions from around the pet industry, all of which can bring a different
perspective to the table.
Denver-based Identity Pet Nutrition launched an online wholesale
(retailer only) fulfillment program called identity Direct 2 Store.
Through identity Direct 2 Store, the company will ship any of
its canned products direct to a retailer’s location via FedEx for a flat
fee of $5/order (minimum order five cases). All orders arrive within
three to five business days, and retailers can pay by credit card or
direct deposit. Identity requires a copy of a retailer’s resell license
information about their business to set up an account.
Eligible retailers interested in participating can email to the company’s customer care team, which will send pricing and ISO information. Once a retailer is signed up, Identity gives them access to
its identitypetdirect.com web store for easy ordering.
The company has also entered into an agreement with Allgood
Consulting to provide independent sales support and representation throughout the Midwest.
Allgood Consulting will provide business-to-business sales representation for Identity in Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Indiana,
