Jennifer Kimmel: Livestock favorites include African cichlids, coral frags, freshwater nano fish,
aquatic plants and bettas. In dry goods, favorites are Seachem Tidal Filters and NorthFin
PPN: What are your favorite products and/or livestock right now?
JK: For livestock: exotic plecos, freshwater nano fish and African cichlids. For dry goods:
AquaClear filters, Kessil lighting and Reef Octopus protein skimmers.
PPN: What trends have you been keeping your eye on most closely?
JK: Nano fish and planted aquariums. Planted aquariums, along with smaller-sized
fish for nano aquariums, are increasing in popularity due to advances in lighting and
PPN: What is your best tip for turning first-time fishkeepers into repeat customers?
JK: Being factual and honest with relaying information to the customers.
PPN: What business challenge are you currently in the process of tackling?
JK: We find ourselves correcting a vast amount of misinformation that customers come in
with, mainly from the internet. It does consume employee time, but it’s necessary for long-term success in this hobby.
PPN: What business goal are you hoping to achieve this year?
JK: By sticking to our formula of maintaining a clean store, offering healthy fish and inverts,
and sound information, we hope to continue to increase our client base for years to come.

MARY HELEN HORN to the newly created role
of president for Ziwi USA Inc., which is based in

Jackson Galaxy Enterprises named MARC KUR-
SCHNER as its CEO. In his new role, Kurschner is
responsible for creating and executing strategy
across all aspects of the business including brand
development, licensing and distribution of Jackson
Galaxy branded and owned products. He will report to
founder Jackson Galaxy.
Prior to joining Jackson Galaxy Enterprises, Kurschner was senior
vice president of sales at Getty Images, where he was responsible for
overseeing the company’s sales team and customer service efforts within
the Americas. Prior to that, he served as senior vice president of global
sales at MediaVast and also founded New York-based sports marketing
company Tele-Sports Inc.
The World Pet Association (WPA) has elected new officers. The officers are
MICHAEL TWAIN, chairman; BARRY BERMAN, first vice chairman; PETE RISANO,
second vice chairman; VIC MASON, CFO; and TROY FIRTH, secretary.
New board members include B.C. HENSCHEN of Platinum Paws,
MICHEAL LOU of Patchwork Pets and KERYN ROD of Puppy Spot.
Lew Sutton, executive vice president of the International Markets Division at PetAg Inc., will be leaving the board. WPA honored Sutton during
its President’s Reception at the Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas before
the kickoff of the SuperZoo trade show in July.
Twain operates three direct import businesses—Amazing Pet
Products, One Pet Planet and Pet Specialty Merchandisers—and a web
business, Pet Train.com. He has experience in the retail, wholesale and

Risano is president of the Pet Life retail chain. He took over the
chain—formerly a six-store operation called The Kennelshop—
rebranded it as Pet Life and grew it to be 17 stores and more than triple the

He started in the pet industry working at his uncle’s pet store at the
age of 15 and worked retail until he founded a distributing company in

Firth is CEO of Anipet Animal Supplies, a Western Canadian-based
distributor of pet food and supplies. Previously, he served as territory
manager, Western Canada, for Nutro Products and Lumber Broker servicing the Midwest and Southeast.
NPIC has made changes to its management team and forecasting methods to meet the challenges of its recent growth. The company has grown
by 200 percent since 2011, putting some strain on its supply chain, said
officials for the Plano, Texas-based company.
ANDREW KANG, NPIC’s founder, has returned as the CEO to restructure the management team and oversee the implementation of new
forecasting and production procedures.
WILLIAM CHO was named CFO vice president of sales and marketing.
He has more than 15 years of experience in contract manufacturing
JANE BAT TAGLIA will serve as national sales director. Her background
in the pet industry is extensive. She has held senior positions at Mars,
Nutro, Fromm and Eagle Pet Foods.
GLENN GODLEY will head up private label and OEM for the company.
He has more than 20 years in the pet industry and has held senior management positions at several companies.
STEFANI LAMONS has filled the role of brand account representative
to help the company be more responsive to customers’ needs. She has
experience organizing and executing large-scale events and in planning,
budgeting and customer relations.
AQUANZA WILLIAMS, the customer service manager, has been with
NPIC for four years. She handles customer service, shipping, and day-to-day activity for branded and private label customers.

production officer, and a group of industry veterans, Josh Liu and Tina
Gan, among others, are fully committed to rebuilding a robust production

The Chuck Latham Associates (CLA) management team has named JOE
GILES its president and COO. CLA is a Parker, Colo.-based company that
specializes in providing comprehensive sales, marketing and merchandising services to the pet industry across all major channels.
Giles has more than 30 years of strategic, operational and customer
service experience. He started as a PepsiCo sales representative and
moved up to general manager in the Dallas-Forth Worth area. Most
recently, Giles served as general manager of Hill’s Pet Nutrition Canada.
During his 21-year tenure with Hill’s, Giles held several positions of
increasing responsibility including project manager, trade marketing manager and national sales director for the pet channel. He established and
managed the firm’s PetSmart customer development team, accelerated
its new product launch process, and formed a new sales team dedicated
to the pet and farm channels, among other achievements.
