After a hiatus of several years, the SuperZoo Show Dailies, created and published by Pet Product News International (PPN) (booth 3858), are back with three packed
issues—one for each day of this year’s event.
Within the pages of the SuperZoo Show Dailies, PPN’s editors have put together a wealth of
information and must-see content for everyone walking the show floor. Filled with everything from
articles written by SuperZoo’s business-savvy seminar speakers to tips on navigating the show floor
and all of its special sections and neighborhoods to pages of new pet products, the Dailies aim to
enrich attendees’ experience at the show. Readers can also find out more about the show’s organizer,
the World Pet Association, and hear from other pet industry organizations and participants.
The Dailies will also highlight show floor events and grooming contests, as well as furry, finned
scaly and feathered SuperZoo visitors with photos snapped by PPN’s editors during the day.
Don’t forget to grab your copy as you make your way onto the show floor each morning.

SHOW DAILIES ARE BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND
WORLD PET
ASSOCIATION
PRESIDENT
DOUG
POINDEXTER
TO RETIRE
Doug Poindex-
ter, president of
World Pet Asso-
ciation (WPA),
will retire after 27
years with the or-
ganization. The longest-serving executive in the
organization’s history, Poindexter will remain
at the helm until the end of December and will
serve in an as-needed capacity moving forward.
While a replacement has not yet been identified,
WPA is currently conducting a widespread
search and anticipates announcing a successor in
the fall.
Hired as show manager of America’s
Family Pet Expo in 1990, Poindexter quickly
climbed the ranks to executive vice president—
then the highest-ranking position within the
organization—in 1996. He earned the new title
of president in 2006.
Over the course of his decades-long tenure
with WPA, Poindexter led the organization
to the achievement of numerous milestones,
including the acquisition of the Atlanta Pet
Fair & Conference and the inception of Aquatic
Experience in 2014; the rebranding and exponen-
tial growth of SuperZoo from a small, regional
show with 400 booths to an internationally
regarded event with more than 3,000 booths; the
expansion of America’s Family Pet Expo into
the world’s largest pet and pet products expo
with more than 10,000 animals adopted; and
the overall growth of WPA from a four-person
organization to a 20-employee association and
trusted resource for the entire pet industry.
“I’m proud of where we’ve been able to
take this organization—that we are known for
being the rational voice,” Poindexter said. “I’m
proud that we’re known for supporting what’s
best for the industry and not what’s best for our
personal businesses.”
Poindexter’s retirement marks the culmina-
tion of a 48-year career in the pet industry. From
his first job as a cage cleaner at Woody’s Pets
in Monrovia, Calif., to the opening of his own
pet store—Doug’s Animal House in Hacienda
Heights, Calif.—in 1980 to several professional
leadership positions, Poindexter has left an
indelible mark on an industry that he’s truly
passionate about, and he is proud to pass the
torch to the next generation of leaders.
“WPA has grown into an association with
more than 20 employees, all of whom are dedicated, diligent and passionate about moving
the pet industry forward,” Poindexter said. “I
am confident that WPA will remain a strong,
engaged member of the pet community after
my departure and look forward to seeing the
fresh ideas and perspective that my successor
brings to the table.”
MODERNA TEAMS UP
WITH KARMA RESCUE
The Moderna Products team is raising
money for Karma Rescue/Paws For Life
by donating $1 for each signature on its
SuperZoo booth wall banner. SuperZoo
attendees are invited to visit the company’s booth (3054) to sign its banner in
support of the rescue organization.
“We look forward to all coming by our booth to put their John Hancock on our
banner, and we will, again, make a donation,” said Bruce J. Flantzer, North American
director of sales and marketing for Moderna in Gaffney, S.C. “This year, we have
donated funds and product to help this great organization.”
At Global Pet Expo in Orlando, Fla., in March, Moderna had more than 750
signatures on its booth’s banner. For each signature, the company had planned to
donate $1 to Karma Rescue/Paws For Life, but Moderna doubled the amount, giving
Karma more than $1,500, and donated product that was needed to support the rescue
organization.
MISSION PETS
ACQUIRES HARRY
BARKER
Mission Pets (booth
3851) has acquired Harry
Barker (booth 4206), a
Charleston, S.C.-based
brand of fashion-forward and ecologically conscious pet accessories.
The move brings sales channel diversification to Mission Pets,
allowing the company to expand beyond mass retail, where it is a
major industry player, said company officials. Harry Barker products
will continue to be sold through retailers such as Neiman Marcus,
Nordstrom, Lands’ End and L.L.Bean, along with specialty boutiques, home and gift shops, pet stores and premium online retailers.
“There’s a lot of sameness in the industry, but Harry Barker is
special—we see tremendous opportunity to grow brand awareness
and thoughtfully cultivate this business,” said Carmine Petruzello,
CEO of Mission Pets in San Francisco.
Founded in 1997 by former fashion model Carol Perkins, Harry
Barker makes an array of pet toys, beds, treats, storage canisters,
bowls and spa products, all designed to beautify the home and bring
joy to pets and pet owners alike. Perkins will continue to lead the
brand’s product design as creative director.
“I’m delighted that the partnership with Mission Pets will give us
the resources to grow our assortment of handsomely designed, sus-tainably made pet items while giving me the opportunity to focus on
what I love most—product design and development,” Perkins said.
